Kevin, Most of the 850/1000cc Guzzis of that vintage share the same Bosche alternator and (probably) similar wiring. The LM1 diagram should work fine for you to trouble shoot. The 3 main charging system components are the rectifier assy, the mec...

I live in Northern Wisconsin, USA. About 8 miles from the Michigan (U.P.) border. There are not too many Italian motorcycles in my neighborhood. Up here, most folks ride Harleys. And they are militant. Back in the east - where I'm from - Harley ri...

Great minds think alike, John. I think the red frames look sharp on our bikes. And, there is the tradition of the earliest V7 Sports having red frames.

Thank you for the feedback. MG looked like a good source and with your input I know I can count on them.

One question I have is in regards to the frame. I may wish to strip and repaint the frame some day.

Is this a bad thing to do to an original? The frame has some spots of rust and could use refinishing.

Hello John.
I've just bought a '78 in original condition.
Looking for parts supply such as cables, brake and carb rebuild kits, etc.
Would like to get a Corbin saddle and a rear sets.
Any sources you can share?

-Tom

What kind of Moto Guzzi do you own
1977 850 LeMans
I've owned my LM since 1981. In that time, I've replaced 3 sets of clutch discs, one clutch hub, a rectifier board, and numerous seals...oh, and a whole bunch of batteries. I installed a B-10 cam in 1985 and had the tank, side covers, and frame painted w/ red imron paint. (I don't think you can use that paint anymore - was too toxic to the user, but the stuff has held up amazingly well in the intervening years.) Other than the usual oil/filter/valve adjustments, she has been a pretty reliable (for an Italian m/c) beast.

12 years ago, I got a second bike - a VFR 750 Honda. The Honda now gets most of the mileage, but the LeMans is still a great bike when I want to go for a short spirited "hop." I am still amazed, 27 years later, what a wonderful machine Sr. Tonti and Sr. deTomaso created all those years ago. You ride this thing hard and fast, you can NOT stop from getting a big smile on your face. I find myself laughing like a kid. Truly, che bella machina!
